Greenpeace, Starbucks, 'NSync

Humanitarians,

What a two days it has been, reviewing globalization!

Some reminders....

Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology (like the internet and twitter). As we've seen globalization can take many forms; it can include:
1. the movement of people and thus their cultures. see South Asians moving to places like South Africa, Australia, and the UK.
2. international/multinational organizations, both political (the United Nations), economic (the International Monetary Fund), business (Starbucks), and sporting (FIFAAAAAAAAAAAAA).
3. Globalization has lots of great effects, like iPhones, and Thai food in Texas, and international groups coming together to fight poverty/terrorism, etc, and Bollywood, but it also has some negative effects, like its effects on our environment, and the perpetuating of income inequality among nations, and in some places, the replacement of individual culture with something a little more global.

Tomorrow, we will wrap up anything we haven't finished, such as terrorism, 9/11, and perhaps international organizations.

THURSDAY is a Quiz. And then Friday, the best movie ever. Friday is also the last day of the six weeks, so if you have anything to make up DO IT.

This day in history....

  • 1861: the Civil War began when Fort Sumter was attacked.
  • 1945: President Franklin Roosevelt died.
  • 1955: The polio vaccine of Dr. Jonas Salk was called "safe, effective, and potent."
  • 1961: Soviet cosmonaut Yuri A. Gagarin became the first human in space and also the first human to orbit the Earth in a spacecraft.

  • 1983: Harold Washington was elected Chicago's first African-American mayor.
  • 1999: Arkansas federal judge Susan Webber Wright found President Clinton in contempt of court for lying about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky.

I'm currently out of social media to follow, so I'm gonna copy Stanton and leave you with a sweet cover. Cover time....Ben Howard covering the always classic "Call Me Maybe"

Happy Tuesday. Check out this delicious Taco place up by the Garafola residence.... Daddy's Tacos.
