Good afternoon Humanitarians! This week in class, I've already seen many faces resembling this...

Why so serious? |
Today we jumped back into our Modern unit with a leap into imperialism, which we will be discussing extensively this week and next week. Understanding imperialism is MUY importante to the remainder of our study of World History, as well as the life you're living right now. Many of the events we see in global politics can trace their roots back to the massive tree of imperialism. Today and tomorrow we'll focus specifically on British imperialism through our case study. Keep in mind one of our target ideas for this unit, or how
industrializing powers are establishing transoceanic empires. What the Brits did was poppycock, I tell you! Straight rubbish! Bollocks. Pip pip! Okay, I'm out of ridiculously stereotypical (and probably inaccurate) British phrases.
On a random note having nothing to do with ludicrous racism, I read
this article yesterday and found it kind of fascinating. It's about how a woman's brain changes as she becomes a mother. Add that to your list of the human body's insane ability to do cool things.
Speaking of more sciencey things, today's photo of the day comes from Iran, specifically from Larek, an island in the Persian Gulf. See all that blue glow emanating from the water? That's PLANKTON, people. Biology is rad (right, Kraft?).

I wonder if Sheldon J. Plankton would appreciate this picture. |
Keep it real, homies. Go read Chapter 32 in your WHAP book and your CE. You guys rock.
Virdin out.
